Official launch of citizens Platform One Million

OnemillionvotesforEurope is the platform for citizen's to launch their proposals to strengthen Europe and rally for supporters. It gives citizens directly the opportunity to participate in European affairs. The website anticipates upon a vital upcoming change in the EU Treaty, which gives European citizen's a possibility to influence directly EU policy making: the citizen's initiative as laid down in the Treaty of Lisbon.

Today two initiatives by Candidates of the European Parliament are launched to officially open the website to all citizens. Firstly, Party leader of the Liberals Graham Watson seeks for support for a more open election for the Presidents’ seat in the European Parliament.

And then two Dutch Candidates – Marietje Schaake en Stientje van Veldhoven – are aiming to get support for their proposal to widen the Erasmus Program so that more students can benefit from this successful exchange program.

From today on citizens from all over Europe can vote on these proposals. If the proposals reached One Million supports the European Commission has to come in action according to the Lisbon Treaty.

The website www.onemillionvotesforeurope.eu is the platform for citizen's to launch their proposals to strengthen Europe and rally for supporters. The website anticipates upon a vital upcoming change in the EU Treaty, which gives European citizen's a possibility to influence directly EU policy making: the citizen's initiative as laid down in the Treaty of Lisbon.

With One Million votes the European Commission has to come in action and open itself to the proposal launched by the citizen’s. But beyond that, this website is the entree platform for YOU (citizen of Europe) to start up debates, launch new proposals to strengthen Europe and speak out on issues YOU want the European Union to focus on.

This website helps you to raise one million votes, preferably from a considerable amount of different member states, and thereby will be able to ask the Commission to present a proposal in any of the EU's areas of responsibility.

The advisory board of 'One million votes for Europe' will provide tools and advice for those ideas that reach a first treshold of 150 supporters. In other words, 'one million votes for Europe' will increase your chances to make your voice heard! We of "one million votes for Europe" believe in the possibility to narrow the gap between citizens and European politics. The citizens' initiative could bring us closer to a more democratic European Union, were all citizens count!
